Borutta

Borutta

From Bonorva the walk continues to Borutta.

Borutta is on the northern part of the Sorres plain and the name is derived from Gruta meaning “Cave”, from the Neolithic age Ulari cave.

The town is also renown for its Basilica of St Peter built in the early 13th century and elevated to a Cathedral when the area fell under the diosece of Sorres until the early 1500s. However, since 1950, the church and the adjoining monastery have been home to a community of Benedictine monks.

From Borutta the walk continues to Ittireddu.
