I can’t remember the last time I felt so elated. I went solo on s group supporting a fellow trekker on her kick off to a 3 month trekking camino experience. We started at Rabat and ended in Birgu spanning around 9.5hrs with 3 water break stops, ca. 38km. Having lived in Malta most of my life and being brought up in a town village it was such a joy to walk through villages like zebbug, zabbar, zejtun etc feeling the nostalgia of living in traditional Malta. Such a contrast to the modern day central areas. An additional treat to experience it on Easter Sunday with all the beautiful village flags up. I walked streets for the very first time and we passed several chapels, churches, basilicas. Our Lead, James gifted us with the rich history of each one, as well as Maltese history and traditions. His knowledge and enthusiasm was definitely the highlight of my day. We were a lovely friendly group, with a great walking pace and positive vibes. Highly recommended even if you can’t manage the full stretch there are easy options to start or end at other points. I can’t wait to discover more through Xircammini.
